Have you ever had a dream you gave up on because you either lost your motivation or life kept continuously hitting you in the face? Was there a moment where you were being incredibly lazy on completing your tasks and wished that you had someone hold you accountable to complete them within a certain time frame?
We all have had our fair share of moments in our lives where we feel unmotivated, uninspired and let procrastination become our best friend. We also all have experienced times in our lives where “life happens” and forces us to put all our dreams and goals on hold to deal with “reality”.
There was a point in my life where I was unmotivated to do anything. I was dealing with challenges in my life that seemed like they would never end. I had lost all hope and inspiration to works towards fulfilling my dreams. I felt that maybe I was thinking too “highly” of myself to think that my life would be meant for more than just working a “9 to 5” and living a mediocre life.
One night, I was having a casual conversation with one of my best friends that quickly turned into a mini therapy session. Yes, even the strongest of men sometimes need a listening ear to “let it all out” to. I was always good at masking what I was dealing with so, my best friend had no clue what I was going through. After letting me vent out all my frustrations, my best friend then made a pact with me that he would do everything in his power to help me keep going and not give up on what I really wanted because he knew I was meant to be great.
Having someone who refused to give up on me and help me work towards what I wanted to achieve in my life was a gift from God. My best friend held me accountable to remain resilient and persevere despite the challenges that I was facing at the time. He would call me daily and we would talk on the phone for about an hour which was devoted to keeping me “mentally healthy” and setting goals for me to complete. He was the true definition of what I call an accountability partner.
An accountability partner is someone who will hold you responsible for doing whatever it is you need to do to achieve whatever it is you want to achieve. Your accountability partner will help keep you motivated, inspired and be a positive force in your life to keep you going when you may feel like you want to quit.
Accountability Partnerships Work!
Now, when it comes down to actually accomplishing what you want you in life, you have to ultimately decide how bad you want it and how hard you are willing to work to get it. However, having someone that will help push you and help come up with a strategic game plan to ensure you successfully achieve what you want, would be a tremendous asset to your overall success. I am a perfect example of how having someone like that, is indeed a life asset.
You may feel prideful or embarrassed at the fact that you need someone to keep you accountable for anything but, there is nothing wrong with admitting that you need help to stay focused. Every successful person has had at least one person in their corner that kept them motivated and driven to become all that they aspired to be. I myself had to learn that admitting I need help made me strong, not weak. So, take an overview of your life right now, and see if you too could benefit from having an accountability partner.
